Moving On from May
Books, Bracelets, Graduation, and a Song I Can't Stop Humming
The last day of May. Tomorrow, I’ll turn the page on the calendar hanging in our kitchen to June. And not just any June, but June 2026. Our son will be days away from graduating high school. It feels like I blinked, and maybe kept my eyes closed a bit too long, because suddenly our family has made it to this monumental accomplishment. All I can do is look at our son, and our family, in gratitude and awe.
In case you missed them, I’m including links to my last two blog posts:
May 20th: Courage & Craft
May 27th: Romantic Comedy
Writing Prompt:
Our writing prompt comes from Rupi Kaur’s Writing Prompts - Self Love. Remember, the purpose of the prompt is to help you get started. Stay on topic or veer off completely. Just write for five minutes.
“I should be more compassionate to myself when …”
Something I’m Wondering About:
I find myself getting confused about the proper usage of two words — fewer or less. “There were three hundred fewer people at the launch,” or “There were three hundred less people at the launch.” Neither one sounds great to my ear. At the same time, both seem to work to get my point across. Of course, I could (and will) look it up in the dictionary, but before I do, anyone else have the same problem? And if not, do you have a pair of words that confuses you when it comes to proper usage of each word?
Wendy Stamp of Approval:
Several days ago, I heard a song playing from a nearby car, and I haven’t been able to get it out of my head since. Enjoy Linda Ronstadt’s “Blue Bayou.” Do you have a favorite Linda Ronstadt song?
This Date in History:
Mom, actor, model, author, and entrepreneur Brooke Shields was born on May 31st, 1965. (You may remember I read, and wrote about Brooke’s memoir, Brooke Shields Is Not Allowed to Get Old. In case you missed it, you can click here to read that post.)
Actor and filmmaker Clint Eastwood was born on May 31st, 1930. (I always think of the movie, The Bridges of Madison County, when I think of Clint Eastwood. Ask my dad, though, and he’ll mention several movies - and The Bridges of Madison County won’t be one of them.)
Until Next Time —
Wishing you sunny skies and peaceful nights. And for those of you celebrating your own monumental events in June, sending you virtual balloons and congratulations!
